X-Men Director Bryan Singer Developing Documentary on Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

X-Men director Bryan Singer is developing a documentary about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, together with the Israeli-born director Guy Shalem and Same Name Productions, Variety reported on Thursday.

The documentary, tentatively titled “In the Middle of the Middle East,” is set to focus on an Israeli-Arab activist who fights for coexistence "while searching for true peace within himself," Variety reported.

Singer, best known for his work in the X-Men movie franchise, is reportedly considering directing the film himself, marking his documentary directorial debut.

According to Variety, Israeli filmmaker Yariv Horowitz is also set to co-produce the film, which is scheduled to open in theaters in the fall of 2016.

Bryan Singer eyes documentary on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Bryan Singer has directed four superhero movies and is currently working on X-Men: Apocalypse, but he's shifting gears for his next feature. EW can confirm a Variety report that the filmmaker and Guy Shalem are developing a documentary about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, tentatively titled In the Middle of the Middle East.

Singer has previously produced documentaries including 2006's Look, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman and 2008's Valkyrie: The Plot to Kill Hitler. It's not clear whether or not he will direct this one, which Variety reported will be told from the perspective of an Arab-Israeli activist.

The movie is set to arrive in fall 2016.

The documentary will follow a young Arab-Israeli activist as he navigates personal and political minefields and works to find a solution for coexistence in the Middle East.

Singer is currently developing the documentary, which he may also produce depending on his post-production schedule for “X-Men: Apocalypse,” which is slated for release on May 27, 2016.

The documentary would hit theaters in the fall of 2016, possibly in preparation for an awards campaign. Singer has never directed a documentary before but he has shown an interest in Israeli conflicts between the Nazi-themed films “Valkyrie” and “Apt Pupil.”

Bryan Singer to Develop Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Documentary

Bryan Singer and Guy Shalem, in collaboration with Same Name Productions, are developing a documentary exploring the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the vantage point of a dynamic Arab-Israeli activist.

Singer, known for his “X-Men” franchise, could possibly direct the film, marking his documentary directorial debut. The doc would also be one of the few he’s produced.

The movie, which has the working title “In the Middle of the Middle East,” will follow a young man as he navigates personal and political minefields, determined to advance a workable solution for coexistence in the Middle East, while searching for true peace within himself.

Yariv Horowitz (“Rock the Casbah”) is also set to co-produce. The movie is slated to bow in the fall of 2016.

Singer is directing “X-Men: Apocalypse,” which hits theaters on May 27, 2016. He is repped by WME.

SURI ELLERTON founded Same Name Productions with fellow producer Sarah Ben Yair in 2014.

At Same Name, Suri is actively involved in all projects on the Same Name slate, from earliest creation and development through post production.

Prior to founding Same Name, Suri was an industry professional working internationally on major film and television productions such as A TALE OF LOVE AND DARKNESS, directed by and starring Natalie Portman and DIG, an NBCUniversal production starring Jason Isaacs and Anne Heche.

Suri holds a BA (theater arts and psychology) from Brandeis University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Although she was born and raised in New York, she currently resides in London with her husband.

SARAH BEN YAIR

JOINT MANAGING DIRECTOR

SARAH BEN YAIR founded Same Name Productions with fellow producer Suri Ellerton.

Sarah has years of experience in various professional production roles. Recent credits include Reshef Levi's "Hunting Elephants", and working closely with Gideon Raff (creator of "Homeland") on the NBC-Universal TV series "Dig".

Sarah studied Film and Art Studies at Minshar for Art, Tel Aviv. A filmmaker herself, she has directed and produced numerous short films. Her passion for the art form and dedication to her work are a vital part of any Same Name film.
